The problem of workplace absenteeism has had increasing relevance as more and more employees are afforded compensatory packages that include paid sick days and paid personal days. For public institutions with limited budgets, the negotiations of employment contracts often revolves around discussions of the problem of absenteeism and the impact on budgets, performance levels and departmental efficacy.
